How far is Coldstream from Vernon, and is it a separate town?
Coldstream sits right next door to Vernon, just to the east, wrapping around the north end of Kalamalka Lake. It is a separate municipality, the District of Coldstream, incorporated on December 21, 1906, with its own mayor, council, bylaws and property taxes, apart from the City of Vernon.
The District describes itself as two neighbourhoods: Coldstream in the west and Lavington in the east, centred on the historic Coldstream Ranch. The municipal hall is on Kalamalka Road. Both Coldstream and Vernon are part of the Regional District of North Okanagan.
Day to day, many people move between the two for work, shopping and the Kal Lake beaches. I explain how the rules differ in Coldstream vs Vernon and cover the lakeshore in my Kal Lake page.
